Free Motion Quilting (FMQ) is free-hand quilting, where you guide your quilt to create the design you want. FMQ is like handwriting; it is uniquely yours. FMQ designs typically fall under three major categories or headings; the “S” curve, circles, and straight lines.  From these, you can create a multitude of quilting designs; an endless array of designs to personalize your creations.  With practice you will develop the skill and confidence to tackle even the largest project on your domestic machine; yes, even a king size quilt!

FMQ is fun, relaxing, and addictive!  You will gain much joy and satisfaction in taking your quilts from start to finish.

Virginia has been quilt making for well over 20 years and taught for 8 years before moving to Nova Scotia.  She began her journey into Free Motion Quilting (FMQ) 7 years ago, while living in Northern Manitoba. Seeing such beautifully quilted quilts online and wanting to be able to do the same with hers, Virginia began the process of educating herself through YouTube, online courses and web tutorials. Through that, she’s perfected her skill, (still so much to learn!) and created her own signature look. She took 1st Place and  “Best in Show” two years running in the Pictou County, North Colchester Annual Exhibition (2016 & 2017), as well as, “Best Overall Exhibit” at the 2016 Exhibition. She also took “Best in Show” at the Northumberland Quilt Guild’s 2016 Annual Show.

Virginia loves to teach and it was an easy transition to teaching FMQ. She has taught beginner and intermediate FMQ courses in Manitoba and in Nova Scotia.
